Foundations were built in the wrong place at a failed subdivision in Tauranga, the former operations manager says.

Dean Skipper gave evidence at the trial of Bella Vista Homes in the Tauranga District Court where 28 charges under the Building Act have been levelled at the company, its director Danny John Cancian, The Engineer Ltd/Bruce John Cameron and Darrell Joseph.

Skipper told the court he “inherited” issues when taking on the job.

Site excavations were dictated by the topography of the land and tied to the resource consent for the entire development, he said.

“Houses had to be in certain positions and at certain heights.

“I had a call from Mark Bell (a building inspector) saying one foundation was in the wrong place. I measured it and realised some others were as well.”

Skipper told the court on Wednesday that this was flagged with Cancian but was told to get on with his job.
