Netflix viewers are so obsessed with a brand new reality show that they’ve already deemed it ‘the best’ real estate series on television – providing competition for long-time favorite Selling Sunset. Having dropped on the streaming platform globally on June 28, Owning Manhattan has already gripped viewers with its ‘cracking’ properties and perfect balance of drama and business.
‘Hate to say it, but Selling Sunset has got competition on the east coast,’ declared one fan on X. ‘This show is easily one of the best real estate shows on TV my gosh!’ added another. ‘I’m ready for a season 2 ASAP!’ The new eight-part series follows real estate mogul Ryan Serhant ‘s eponymous company and his elite army of agents as they face intense competition to secure New York City’s most exclusive luxury listings.
The explosive first season features some of the city’s most illusive properties – including a $250 million penthouse at Central Park Tower. And of course, there’s plenty of drama at the Serhant office too, which is neatly sandwiched in between the breathtaking listings. Included in the drama is the shock firing of controversial agent, Jonathan Nørmølle, in the show’s final episode, with Ryan forced to take desperate measures in order to reprimand bad behavior.
‘I have a one strike policy for toxicity and negativity,’ Ryan previously told DailyMail.com. ‘There are no bad apples. ‘What you see me go through on the show, is while that term is easy to say, it’s hard to put in practice. ‘Sometimes you’ll see some bad behavior, and my gut instinct is it’s a one strike policy, you can’t work here anymore.’
He continued: ‘As a CEO, I’ve had to really focus on like the two B’s when managing people, which is the business and the behavior. ‘I’m working on building something really, really big. This is unlike the other shows that follow people who are just focused on themselves.’ Viewers are already obsessed with the series, with some branding it the new ‘superior’ real estate show and declaring for more entertaining than Selling Sunset – which follows agents at the Oppenheim Group in Los Angeles.
‘Serhant is truly killing it with this show! Selling Sunset has east coast competition!’ said one. Another posted: ‘Serhant may have just give us a much better Selling Sunset with #OwningManhattan because I am ENTERTAINED!’ ‘As a fan of Selling Sunset/The OC & Buying London, I’m quite thrilled to have another bingeworthy real estate show on my list,’ said a third.
A fourth wrote: ‘After finishing the season, I’m just gonna throw it out there, this is the superior one. It has the right amount of drama & business.’ Others praised the diversity on screen, with one viewer writing: ‘#OwningManhattan is the best real estate show on TV. Engaging diverse cast, brains and cracking real estate. Season 2 please Netflix, these lot are winners.’ Another echoed the sentiment, adding: ‘This show is a winner. And the best thing about Ryan’s agency is you notice the diversity of his team right away. Other reality real estate shows so lacking in POC.’
While Netflix has yet to announce whether Owning Manhattan will return for season two, Ryan has registered interest in shooting in the fall. Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, he said: ‘If we’re gonna do a season two, I would really like to make sure we shoot in the fall when people are buying and selling real estate a lot.
‘We got a little stuck last year because we were shooting through the summer. ‘And the summer in New York City… I really don’t like humidity and gets very sticky. ‘So if you’re ever watching an episode and thinking, man Ryan’s very shiny, it’s because it was 96,000 degrees outside.’
