The Christchurch rebuild continues to generate innovative architecture, with projects in the city winning most of this year’s NZIA Canterbury Architecture Awards.

The awards, presented in Christchurch on June 6, 2019, included prominent commercial and public projects, seven new houses, two renovations, three multi-unit developments and an Enduring Architecture award for a house built in 1964.

The Mid-century Modern Messervy house in Ilam, designed by Alan Mitchener Architect, was described by the awards jury as a “a special house”.
