Texas Officials Plan Demolition of Tina Knowles’ Beachfront Home

After being in disrepair for nearly 20 years, Texas officials plan to demolish a beachfront home on the Gulf of Mexico belonging to Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles.

Location and Condition of the Property

The $1.4 million house, situated in the wealthy enclave Pirate’s Beach in Galveston, requires residents to maintain a country club membership. However, Knowles’ home has been deteriorating for 16 years after being damaged by Hurricane Ike in 2008.

Resident Perspectives on the Deterioration

“I mean obviously, it’s a little bit of an eyesore. Depending upon your perspective, a lot of an eyesore,” resident Richard D’Antoni told Fox 26.

Physical Characteristics and Repairs

Aside from its obvious need for a facelift, the house literally stands out as the only property physically on the sand. It’s unclear why Knowles has not made the repairs asked of her by the City of Galveston, Fox 26 reported. Other homes in the area are close to the beach but not on it.

Neighbour Concerns and Expectations

“On the other side, there are pilings you can actually see through. The slab has fallen. It’s fallen worse just from last week’s storm,” Pirates Beach resident James Munoz added. “Right now, the tide is low so you’re not going to see the worst of it, but normally the tide comes up high enough where the bottom of the house is covered.”

Neighbors had been patiently waiting for Knowles to make repairs and stay in the community to continue being neighbors with Beyoncé’s mother.

Offers of Assistance and Delays

Galveston officials have been in contact with Knowles about options to help her make repairs. Because her home was damaged by a natural disaster, the State of Texas offered Knowles $150,000 to move the property, revealed local city council member Marie Robb. However, no repairs or relocation have been undertaken so far.

“I’m concerned at least the deck, or a good portion of the house, could collapse, which is why we’re moving forward with the demolition. Considering it’s 2024 and Hurricane Ike was in 2008, I’d say we’ve given them more than ample time to respond,” the councilwoman stated.

Demolition Timeline and Public Reaction

A demolition order could come in 60 days. Knowles has not commented on the scandal. Her publicist told the outlet that she may be traveling.

Despite her own lack of care for her beach home, Knowles exhibited hometown pride recently by clapping back after Charles Barkley made disparaging remarks about Galveston.

Knowles’ Defense of Galveston

“We’re going to send them to Galveston where that dirty a– water be washing up on the shore. You people think they at the beach,” Barkley said as part of his NBA coverage for TNT in April.

“Chuck, we don’t play about Galveston, Texas! You better watch it, sucker,” Knowles responded on Instagram. “Our water might not be blue, but it is still the beach and we love it! In fact, what you probably don’t know is it’s an island! Yes, me and @angiebeyince still rock our BOI necklaces (Born On The Island). Jay sent this to me and Angie B yesterday! He asked us if we’re gonna let him talk about our city like that! All good, @charleswbarkley, we got a great laugh. So y’all don’t start no S___T.”

After Knowles’ post, Barkley apologized to the Texas icon’s mom. “Ms. Knowles, I don’t want that smoke. I don’t want the Bey Hive and Jay after Chuck,” the sports announcer said. “I apologize.”

Community’s View on Knowles’ Actions

Despite not keeping her home up to community standards, Knowles’ defense of the island community cemented her hero status in the eyes of locals.

“Yeah, I saw Tina’s response, and we love her for that response because we love Galveston, but Barkley probably wouldn’t have any nice words to say about the condition of this house,” Munoz said.
