Big business could delay a billion dollar Waikato housing project by 12 months, developers say.
And Perry Group bosses say the hurdle is frustrating when jobs are vital in the post Covid-19 environment.
The Te Awa Lakes development at Horotiu was due to start with earthworks in October this year.
An application for a re-zoning change was approved by commissioners in March, but Fonterra and Affco have appealed the decision.
The development would see around 1000 homes, a water adventure park and a village centre with cafes and restaurants built on 62 hectares at the northern entrance to Hamilton.
Perry Group chief executive Richard Coventry said the appeals were frustrating.
“I think the economic downturn at the moment is not that good, and we need developments like this to stimulate the economy,” Coventry told Stuff.
“This could delay employment for a number of families in Waikato.”
