A showstopping “bloke’s dream” Newport mansion boasting a marble-floored five-car garage is for sale with a $16m asking price, which would double the suburb’s record.
The five-bedroom house at 78 The Strand also features a pool near an alfresco kitchen with a built-in barbecue, an outdoor heated cigar area, a billiard and trophy room, a marble staircase and chandelier, six bathrooms and full-height windows offering Melbourne city views in the living, dining and kitchen room.
If the property achieves a $16m sale, it will set a jaw-dropping new record for Newport where the existing $7.405m benchmark was set by 62 The Strand in 2009.
JP Dixon Real Estate managing director Jonathan Dixon has the listing in conjunction with Gunn & Co Estate Agents managing director Anthony Gunn.
Mr Dixon described the mansion as “a bloke’s dream, which was what the owner wanted when he built” circa-1995.
The home’s owner is John Mousaferiadis, managing director of Red Engine Group which owns about 50 Victorian eateries including Williamstown’s Pelican’s Landing restaurant, public records show.

Stunning views.
The kitchen features granite benches, high-end Miele appliances, a bench and a butler’s pantry.
Mr Dixon declined to comment on the owner but said he was keen to sell because the house was simply “too big” for a sole occupant.
Mr Dixon described the garage, which has Carrera marble floors, high ceilings and direct entry to the home, as “an art gallery if you like cars”.
The home’s upper level includes a hotel-style main bedroom overlooking the water, with a marble ensuite and walk-in wardrobes.

Bonus offerings include a Bang and Olufsen sound system, “extravagant” ponds in the garden, a glassed-in indoor pond and sculpture, hydronic slab heating downstairs and powder rooms.
Mr Dixon said overseas-based Australian buyers, who have businesses in Melbourne’s west, were showing interest in the home.

He said Newport was “a part of Melbourne that is undervalued in terms of being on the water”, often overlooked for nearby Williamstown and Altona.
“The Strand is The Strand, Williamstown is only a few doors away,” Mr Dixon added.
The mansion is a two-minute walk to the Williamstown Yacht Club.
