Wellingtonians have delivered the $500 million Shelly Bay development a savage blow by failing to elect a single councillor in favour of it.
Of the 14 councillors and one mayor most likely to lead Wellington for the next three years, not one was willing to confirm that they would support the development as it currently stood if resource consent is granted.
The vote is crucial because the decision to sell and lease Wellington City Council land at the Miramar peninsula site will almost-certainly go back for a vote of the new council.
