🔴 The Controversial Olympic Stadium in Victoria Park
At the heart of the debate is the construction of a 60,000-seat Olympic Stadium in Victoria Park. This move marks a dramatic backflip from Premier David Crisafulli, who had previously pledged that no new stadiums would be built.
“The time has come to just get on with it,” Crisafulli said, defending the decision.
However, protestors have picketed Victoria Park, arguing that the development will erase Indigenous cultural heritage and destroy a crucial inner-city green space. Victoria Park, also known as Barrambin, is a heritage-listed site of historical significance to the Turrbal people.
