• Buying a second farm at the same time as the farmgate milk price was dropping through the floor was not the best choice in hindsight, a Marlborough dairy farmer says.

“It wasn’t the best timing to buy another farm, and it’s been a tough two seasons but the latest increase will help,” Canvastown farmer Blair Berkett said.

The 50 cent increase to the forecasted farmgate milk price payout to $5.25 a kilogram of milksolids, after a 1.7 per cent rise in global dairy prices, announced by Fonterra this week will boost Berkett’s farm income an extra $140,000, he said.
