One of the few privately-owned heritage limestone buildings in Oamaru’s renowned Victorian precinct is for sale with an asking price of more than $1.6 million.
The Heritage NZ category 2 landmark building, The Woolstore, started life in 1882 as storage for wool and grain and 138 years later hosts a cafe, car museum, gift shop and local art gallery.
Local owners of 26 years, Carol Scott and Allan Wills, wanting to retire, envisage new owners with vision and means taking the historic building “to the next level”.
“The advantage we’ve got is that it’s the only one in the street of significance that is available for sale because the others are owned by a civic trust,” Scott said.
