Central Christchurch wants more residents to bring 24-hour life, activity, and spending into the rebuilt city, but homes in the city’s east frame housing development are not selling well, If something needs adjusting, is it design, size, price, timing, the developer, or something else? LIZ McDONALD takes a look.

It was a lofty government rebuild plan to help repopulate central Christchurch with a range of homes across six city blocks for 2200 residents.

Named the east frame, it would create large and small homes in communities for families, executives, professionals and students, and anyone in between.

Buying the necessary land and lining up a sufficiently big construction company seemed a big task, but once built it was assumed the homes would easily fill.
