Taupō’s moteliers want a level playing field as they feel the squeeze from more than 1000 homestays in the district.
The Taupō District Council says it is looking at homestay operators and will be discussing options for regulation later in the year.
The district is recording the fastest growth in the country on one of the most popular homestays website in the country, with more than 900 listings on Airbnb. There are a similar number listed on Bookabach and over 600 listed on holidayhouses.co.nz.
