Christchurch building

The Chew family has placed Malvern House, Christchurch’s most tagged building, on the market.

At 159 Hereford Street in the heart of the CBD and a stone’s throw from Cathedral Square, the mid-century office building is being sold “as is where is”. Formerly home to the Christchurch International College the seven-storey building was constructed in the 1960s.

The building was owned by Vincent Chew, who died in October last year, and has been inherited by siblings Christopher and Qwan-ling Chew.

Vagrants had caused “tens of thousands” of dollars-worth of damage in the building by smashing toilets, stealing copper piping and cabling, and ripping handbasins from walls, Christopher Chew told The Press in March.
