Click-and-collect

For people missing visiting their local mall, a new service by Westfield will bring them just that little bit closer to the shopping-centre experience.

Westfield Direct, a new click-and-collect service from the shopping centre, allows customers to order from a range of restaurants, cafes and florists and then pick up their items as if the mall were a drive-thru.

The move comes after the shopping centres’ owner Scentre Group introduced the same service in Australia last month.

Although currently the range is mostly limited to food and drinks, the company says more shops offering other types of goods are set to be added soon.

Phil McAveety, Scentre Group’s director of customer experience, said the company realised it needed to be “agile and respond to the fast-changing environment to meet the everyday needs of our customers”.

The service comes after New Zealand moved to alert level 3 last week, allowing not just essential services to open but also businesses deemed to be able to operate in a safe way.

People picking up items from Westfield are instructed to stay in their car with their doors shut and windows up. A staff member will then place the item on a table near the car. Once the staff member has gone back inside you can get your goodies.
