- Drivers north of Wellington are getting tantalising peeks at the new Kapiti expressway as traffic is redirected through the fringes of the $630 million project.
It comes as the New Zealand Transport Agency says the long, wet winter delayed some parts of the project.
On Friday, acting highway manager Chris Hunt said he could not confirm an opening date for the expressway, but was confident it would be “well ahead” of the originally scheduled date of June 2017.
