Victoria’s consumer watchdog has closed a real estate agency’s four offices across Melbourne, with dozens of landlords and potential buyers substantially out of pocket.

Consumer Affairs Victoria is investigating the withholding of funds by MIG Real Estate and closed its offices in Footscray, Somerton, Derrimut and the CBD in September last year.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in deposits and rental income paid by dozens of people appear to have gone missing, including for a proposed Seddon apartment development for which construction work has stalled, according to sources with knowledge of the matter but not authorised to speak publicly.
