Real estate agents will put up signs at open homes warning about coronavirus and are being encouraged to hold auctions off-site amid concerns vendors will not want to let crowds into their properties during the pandemic.

The Real Estate Institute of NSW has suggested agents should not enter properties if they find out a tenant or owner is self-isolating due to the virus and has encouraged holding auctions at sales offices rather than out of the front of the home for sale.

Real estate agents are being advised to avoid on-site auctions.

The REINSW’s official advice to agents further recommends “deferring open, periodic or other inspections if there is any concern”.

A spokeswoman for LJ Hooker said agents were being advised to discuss with home sellers whether they want private viewings only and, if they do allow an open for inspection, are supplying hand sanitiser or disinfectant wipes.Advertisement
