The Government is considering changes to the tax system which could impact greatly on that most quintessential of Kiwi traditions – the family bach.
One of the options included in the Tax Working Group’s report to the Government is a tax on “deemed income” which, in plain English, is a wealth tax on owners of a bach or second home.
This so-called “bach tax” has attracted quite a bit of emotive public backlash, and with good reason.
