Kāpiti Coast District Council has spent $1.43 million on land which could house a gateway to the district’s island.
In a decision made behind closed doors last month, councillors agreed to buy lots at 26 and 29 Marine Parade, Paraparaumu Beach.
Kāpiti Mayor K Gurunathan said the purchase was a “no brainer” and compared it to other opportunities where the council had missed out on strategic purposes – like a 1995 chance to buy the recently-sold Paraparaumu Airport.
