The launch of country’s first climate safe house has been marked with a big bang and offers a glimpse into the future.
The 60-square-metre eco-friendly home features new building techniques, low-carbon construction, a different style of ownership, and is more energy efficient than current KiwiBuild homes.
While the opening of the wooden, relocatable home on Monday was met with much fanfare – including the firing of a cannon – it was also a reminder of the challenges facing low-lowing communities such as Waitati, north of Dunedin.
