A young family who door-knocked entire streets in an effort to buy a slice of land in Brighton have finally nabbed one, forking out $3.18 million at auction.

With their one-year-old son in a pram, the pair fought off a developer and two other young couples for the keys to 4 Horton Close, an original mid-century home on a 650-square metre block backing onto Elwood park.

The young parents, who did not want their names published, said they had “stalked property sites for the last decade”.
