High Court action has been taken in relation to a large farm property in Awakino by the office tasked with keeping an eye on foreign investment in New Zealand.
The Overseas Investment Office (OIO) has issued court proceedings in relation to 248 Fraser Smith Rd, a large farm on the west coast in southern Waikato, which includes 3kms of coastline, a waterfall and swathes of native bush.
Several deals related to the land are under the watchdog’s microscope including the sale of the property in 2010, when it changed ownership from German businessman Karl Reipen to the Song family from Auckland, for a sum of more than $6 million.
The OIO is responsible for regulating direct foreign investment in New Zealand with regards to high value investments and deals related to sensitive land.
