Title: Ian Chappell’s Real Estate Journey and Retirement Retreat
Former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell and his wife, Barbara-Ann, have recently made headlines in the real estate market with a series of strategic property transactions. The couple, known for their longstanding connection to the Bayview area, has embarked on a downsizing journey that includes selling their Bayview property and acquiring a stunning penthouse in Elanora Heights.
The Bayview Spectacle: In a mid-year auction orchestrated by Duane Hunter and Siggi Muehlich of D & S Hunter Estate Agents, the Chappells bid farewell to their Bayview abode, a picturesque four-bedroom, three-bathroom house nestled in a tranquil cul-de-sac. The property offered breathtaking views from Pittwater to Lion Island, complemented by an alfresco wraparound terrace.

The auction proved to be a success, with six registered buyers driving the sale $800,000 higher than its reserve price. The 2105sq m property, originally purchased by the Chappells in late 1984 for $295,000 when they relocated from Neutral Bay, became a cherished part of their history.
The Elanora Heights Oasis: Following the sale of their Bayview property, Ian Chappell and Barbara-Ann set their sights on a penthouse in The Elanora complex at Elanora Heights. The off-market purchase, valued at $2.4 million, secured the couple a three-bedroom plus study apartment with awe-inspiring ocean views.
This downsizing move reflects not only a shift in residence but also a transition to a more compact and luxurious living space. The penthouse, last sold for $1,170,000 in 2014 through Hunter, offers a sophisticated and comfortable lifestyle for the cricket legend and his wife.
A Glance at Past Holdings: Ian Chappell’s real estate portfolio includes a brief ownership of a two-bedroom apartment in the Edgewater over-55s complex at Bayview. The property, sold in 2020 for $1,850,000, adds to the narrative of the couple’s discerning choices in the property market.
Beyond Cricket: Apart from his illustrious cricket career, Chappell has also left his mark in tennis, having won the Bayview Tennis Club championship doubles and securing a runner-up position in singles during his heyday. After four decades of providing cricket commentary for Nine, the outspoken 80-year-old announced his retirement in 2022, marking the end of an era in sports broadcasting.
