If you’ve felt the pinch of rising rent in recent years, take heart (a bit): Your landlords’ costs have been rising, too.

CoreLogic has developed a measure to calculate the indicative cost of owning rental property in New Zealand.

Research analyst Kelvin Davidson said it showed that landlords were not always profiteering at the expense of tenants.

“Costs rose faster than rents for a long period between 2008 and 2014.”
