Margot  Broadhead knows all about growing up on an “elite street“. She and her brother Beau grew up in this house on The Crescent in Roseneath, Wellington.

Sixty years ago, Broadhead’s parents bought the three-storey villa with the astonishing view and moved in. But it wasn’t all roses, she says.

“At that time there was a tenant in the flat upstairs who was a violinist, but not a very good one. My mother said the screeching of the violin got on her nerves and drove her to distraction. But they couldn’t tell her to go, because there were rules about tenants and you weren’t allowed to do that back then. You were only able to release a tenant when you fell pregnant.
