A trio of global entertainment companies are lining up to talk to Wellington’s council about building the capital’s long-awaited indoor arena.

The winning bid would likely mean signing a public-private partnership — a move criticised by  local promoter Phil Sprey who says the project should follow the model of Westpac Stadium to ensure it was publicly-owned.

AEG Ogden and Live Nation have put themselves in the mix to build a 12,500 seat arena, with ratepayers likely paying for a portion of the estimated $200 million cost.
