Sure, the winner (or winners) could play it safe and buy a bundle of million-dollar listings. But why wouldn’t you purchase a couple of palaces, mansions or penthouses if you could?

According to The Lott spokesperson Ally Ramsamy, a survey of more than 100 Australian lottery division one winners showed that having a debt-free roof over their head was a top priority.

“The first thing the majority of our winners do is buy a new house debt-free or pay off the mortgage. They just can’t wait get that weight off their shoulders,” she said.

Apparently 54 per cent of respondents to the survey said they paid off their mortgage and 20 per cent bought a new house.
