Campbell Park Estate in Otekaieke is set to be sold to pay off debts of former Mainzeal boss Richard Yan, who was declared bankrupt in May this year. The estate is one of three parcels of land owned by Richina Ltd, according to Russell Fiddes, national manager of the Insolvency and Trustee Service.

“Richard Yan is the sole shareholder of Richina Ltd, and his shares have vested in the official assignee,” Fiddes said. “The official assignee will look to realize the shares of the company and, accordingly, the land owned by Richina Ltd.”

Before proceeding, Richina Ltd needs to be restored to the Companies Register. If no objections arise, this restoration will occur tomorrow.

The historic Campbell Park Estate was built in 1876 and boasts a castle-style mansion, an old jailhouse, fruit orchards, a field garden, a 1133-hectare working farm, and a 4-hectare vineyard. The estate also features a restaurant, indoor gym, tennis courts, swimming pool, grade-seven aero runway, subterranean cave, and its own village.

Originally a boys’ school from 1908 until its closure in 1987, the property is registered with Heritage New Zealand and has appeared in films such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
