As the first tranche of Kiwibuild homes become sale-ready, there is excitement building in the Marfell community about the benefits its new housing development will bring.
The construction site on Banks St and Discovery Pl was a hive of activity on Tuesday, as the finishing touches are completed on six of 27 of the total number of 68 homes planned in the suburb under what was the Government’s flagship policy.
The other 21 homes should be finished by the middle of the year.
While the success of Kiwibuild has faltered nationally, forcing a policy rethink and the scrapping of its previous target to build 100,000 homes in 10 years, the $23 million New Plymouth project is being embraced by those living and working the area.
