A family battling in court over a $20 million farm claimed they worked the land for years, encouraged by a grandfather’s promise it would one day belong to them.
A decision from Justice Rebecca Edwards in the Auckland High Court, released on Friday, dismissed the claims of Sophie Lai and her two children, Richard Huang and Gini Huang, to the property in the rural Auckland suburb of Coatesville.
The legal battle began when the trust that owns the farm was set to sell it for $20 million in 2016, but Lai lodged a caveat preventing the sale, the decision said.
