PHOTO: LOWE & CO – There are fabulous views of the interisland ferry boats coming in and out of Cook Strait from this former WWII ammunition bunker in Karaka Bays, which is now up for sale.

This 1940s solid concrete bunker has weathered many storms, and doesn’t look much the worse for wear – because that’s how the armed services built them back in the day when they were securing New Zealand against potential enemy threats.

The former WWII ammunition bunker sits in a historic location in Karaka Bays, below the former coastal artillery battery of Fort Ballance on Point Gordon, which is high above Scorching Bay near Seatoun.

And it’s up for sale by tender, through Lowe & Co Realty in Wellington.
