Federated Farmers has greeted the Government’s rejection of a capital gains tax as evidence that is willing to put “well reasoned and practical considerations in front of ideology”.
Farmers have campaigned against the CGT on the grounds that it would introduce “massive” administration costs and put the handbrake on the progress of small and medium businesses.
Feds economics spokesman Andrew Hoggard welcomed Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s promise to tackle land banking and land speculation.
“[It is] an approach that has a much better chance of tackling our housing affordability issues than a CGT.”
