Prospective home-owners looking for ownership ‘hacks’ are writing letters to vendors in a bid to tug at the heart strings.

But buyers are warned it’s money that will do the talking in multi-offer situations.

While selling her Lower Hutt home in June, Emma Miles-Butler received 10 offers. Four included personal letters, one hand written and two with photos of the buyer’s children enclosed..

One letter said, “we loved your little home and we would love to bring up our children in it.”
