An Auckland real estate agency is offering would-be apartment buyers six months rent-free in their new homes to save the deposit to purchase them.
Remax New Zealand owner Don Ha said he had partnered with mortgage brokers to allow buyers of new apartments in the Airedale development in central Auckland to be pre-qualified for home loans.
They would then be allowed to move in, and given up to six months in the apartment, rent-free, while they saved enough deposit to purchase them.
REMAX would treat them as buyers from the start and the price would be set from the time they moved in. They would not be able to back out of the purchase after the rent-free period.
One-bedroom apartments are priced at $595,000, two-bedrooms at $800,000 to $900,000 and the penthouse is selling up for up to $1.8 million. Apartments range from 45 square metres for a studio to 70sqm for a two-bedroom.
