A real estate agent says there are still affordable homes in West Auckland, but the deposit required of buyers is far too high.

Housing affordability for home buyers in Auckland was worsening according to the latest Housing Affordability Measure released on June 13.

The results, released by the Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment, found four in five renters were unable to comfortably afford mortgage payments.

Barfoot and Thompson branch manager Jean Smith said there were still a lot of properties in West Auckland with a price tag of $600,000 or less.
