PHOTO: SCOTT HAMMOND/STUFF – Vineyard owners used their own funds to set up a pumping station to combat flooding, but have found it struggles to keep up.

The future of several Marlborough vineyards is under threat from an exclusive subdivision’s stormwater runoff.

A representative for the vineyard owners has requested proper stormwater management be installed following continuous flooding from the Dry Hills Estate subdivision in southeast Blenheim.

The request was made as part of the Marlborough District Council’s long-term plan submissions earlier this month.

Dry Hills Estate resident Richard Shenfield, who headed the submission on behalf of the flooded vineyards, said the increased housing development had put strain on the vineyards’ current pumping facilities.
