A mother and daughter duo have been ordered to pay back more than $1.1 million in damages after duping the owner of a Wellington manicure salon.

During late 2015, previously-convicted bankrupt fraudster Rebecca Ange Kennedy – a customer at the salon – befriended owner Lan Anh Do Nguyen.

Nguyen had found out the Cuba St building was being sold and became worried about the shop’s security of tenure.

Kennedy then proposed an arrangement where she would buy the building as an investment, a High Court judgment shows.
