22-Year-Old Wahine Māori Makes History as a Pizza Hut Franchise Owner in Tawa
Caitlyn Lewin, a 22-year-old wahine Māori from Ngāti Mutunga o Wharekauri and Rangitāne o Wairau, has achieved an incredible milestone by becoming a Pizza Hut franchisee in Tawa, Wellington. Starting her journey at just 15 with a handwritten CV, Caitlyn has climbed the ranks to own her own store, breaking barriers and embracing her Māori heritage along the way.
From washing dishes part-time to becoming a duty manager at 17, then a store manager at 19, Caitlyn’s determination and work ethic have propelled her to success. Now, as a franchise owner, she’s integrating te ao Māori into her business, introducing te reo Māori signage and planning discounts for customers who order in te reo.
Her journey is a testament to the power of community, with friends and whānau rallying behind her to make the dream a reality. Caitlyn’s inspiring message to rangatahi and aspiring business owners: “Block out fear, chase your dreams, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
