PHOTO: SUPPLIED – The gate at Strathspey Farm near Feilding has been stolen.

A Manawatū farm has had its historical entrance ripped off its hinges.

“The gate has a lot of history, and a lot of sentimental value, to be honest,” Strathspey Farm owner David Wilkins said.

“I saw the hinge hanging and my heart sank. I knew in an instant what had happened.”

Wilkins, from Kimbolton Rd near Feilding, estimated the totara gate was between 90 and 100 years old, but he had recently restored it.

The gate was badly damaged in a storm two years ago. It was repaired with totara Wilkins retrieved from the farm after flooding in 2004.
