Just 18 months ago Donald Gordon was going through a heartbreaking house sale.

After 10 years, he was nearing completion on the house he was building himself in the Kaiti countryside near Gisborne. But a breakup meant he could no longer afford to finish the project.

Then his life changed for the better. And Andrew was only there because his trip home had been delayed by a slip in the gorge. It was also fortuitous that he happened to have seen a story on Stuff about the impending sale.
