A unique auction has raised $986,000 for charity in the Gold Coast suburb of Helensvale, with money from the no-reserve auction to go to Mater Little Miracles, a program that helps more than 2000 sick babies a year.

The stunning four-bedroom, four-bathroom house at 19 Laurel Drive, Helensvale, was built with this purpose in mind as part of the initiative House for Life, which is spearheaded by Plantation Homes.

More than 800 people watched as 18 registered bidders fought it out for about 25 minutes. Bidding opened at $500,000, and quickly jumped to $950,000, knocking out a few of the hopefuls.

From there, the bids slowly worked their way up to the final sale price. The buyers were a local family looking to upgrade to a bigger house in anticipation of their first child being born early next year. Selling agent Brad Clarke, of LJ Hooker Helensvale, said they were happy with the result.
