A $29.7 million plan to slash a popular golf course in half has left golfers fuming at what they claim is an “unfair” decision.

Albert-Eden Local Board voted in favour of developing a business case to scale Auckland’s 18-hole Chamberlain Park golf course down to nine holes, using the freed-up land to develop a public park.

Originally announced in 2017, the project was delayed by opposition group Save Chamberlain Park, who wanted the retain the full size course and claimed the local board was pursuing a “vanity project”.

Save Chamberlain Park chairman Geoff Senescall said he was disappointed by the local board’s decision on Wednesday.
