Housing New Zealand is exploring the prospect of developing up to 300 new homes on the dilapidated Arlington complex in central Wellington.

The proposed partnership with Wellington City Council would see the government agency take a long-term lease of the site in the suburb of Mt Cook.

If the deal goes ahead, subject to public consultation, then the redevelopment will include up to 40 supported-living units for Wellington’s most vulnerable homeless people.

The proposal will be debated by city councillors at a committee meeting next week.
