Greytown is about to get a big bump in population and workforce with the approval of a new retirement village.
The Orchards, a $120 million development on the east side of town, includes plans to build 180 homes and 120 apartments on the 16 hectare site as well as its own community centre and hospital.
Resource consent for the staged development was approved by the South Wairarapa District Council, opening the way for construction to start on the first homes in the new year.
Developer Craig Percy said the project had been about a year in the making and they were excited about bringing the development to Wairarapa.
