The Victorian Greens will use their numbers in Parliament to push for a housing ombudsman after the next election, the party announced on Wednesday.

Greens spokeswoman for consumer affairs Lidia Thorpe said disputes in the housing industry were commonplace, and groups such as renters and new home buyers were disadvantaged against landlords and developers.
