Julie Seed, 38, was on duty at Real Estate Agents Group in Plympton, Adelaide, on December 20, when Shaun Michael Dunk, 30, allegedly burst in and attacked her and her colleague Susan Scardigno, 50, with a knife.

Dunk was apprehended at the scene and charged with Ms. Seed’s murder, as well as the attempted murder of her colleague, who sustained severe injuries but survived. Shockingly, Dunk had been discharged from psychiatric care just two days earlier.

Chris Smith, Ms. Seed’s fiancé, was tasked with delivering the devastating news to her two daughters, aged 12 and 17, as well as her family abroad, about the loss of their beloved ‘Jules.’

Mr. Smith received a distressing call from one of Ms. Seed’s colleagues while at home, urging him to rush to the Royal Adelaide Hospital. It was upon arrival at the hospital that he learned the dreadful truth.

Even now, two months later, the memory of that moment is agonizing for Mr. Smith. “That was some of the hardest stuff that I’ve ever had to do, but it was just being there for the girls and having to be strong,” he shared with 9News. “The 20th of every month is going to be hard.”

Both Mr. Smith and Ms. Scardigno have resolved to seek answers regarding Dunk’s release from the hospital just prior to the incident. “There were obviously some mistakes along the way, and Julie was just an innocent person in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Mr. Smith lamented.

They recently met with South Australia’s chief psychiatrist and an independent investigation is underway.

In the face of this tragedy, the community has rallied around Ms. Seed’s daughters and Mr. Smith, organizing a major fundraiser to be held this Friday night to support the grieving family’s recovery.

The outpouring of support from the community has been a source of strength for Mr. Smith. Hundreds attended Ms. Seed’s funeral in January, most dressed in her favorite color, pink. During the service, Mr. Smith honored his beloved fiancée, describing her as a “loving, caring mother, a friend… who would do anything for anyone.”

“Julie was the love of my life,” he expressed. “She was a loving, caring mother, a friend, who just wanted to be the best friend for her family, and who would do anything for anyone. I’m going to miss your laugh, your smile, your loving embrace. You’ll always be remembered for who you were — an amazing, beautiful soul.”
