Work crews are moving mountains to prepare Lower Hutt’s largest greenfield housing development since the 1970s.
About 400,000 cubic metres – the equivalent of 1600 olympic swimming pools of earth – was being shifted and used as fill at the 240-house Manapouri Grove development in Kelson.
The top 15 metres of a hill was excavated to clear land and expose views over Lower Hutt and Wellington Harbour. The dirt was used as fill to extend the site.
