A 110-year-old villa where Sir Edmund Hillary spent his childhood will be auctioned off before Christmas.
The four-bedroom home was built in 1910 and belonged to Hillary’s maternal grandmother, Harriet Clark.
In 2014, it was moved from Mt Eden to a 3000 square metre section in north Auckland’s Warkworth.
The current owner, Vanessa Beddoe-Sandstrom, said the home’s name was Whakahara, named after Clark’s original homestead near Dargaville.
