It was the unique building at 77 Princes St that drew artist Cecilia Russell and her husband Robert to Hawera.
After almost seven years of work and renovation, it’s now on the market “with reluctance”, as the couple prepare to move closer to family in Wellington. But to hear Russell talk, it’s clear that leaving their home and its history will not be easy.
“We were drawn to Hawera from the Bay of Island by the building really. It was a real challenge,” she said, but the location, and the building’s history, more than made up for that.
