- They proudly showed a friend their part-built dream home but what he noticed turned the experience into a nightmare. Cherie Sivignon reports
It was a friend who saw the problem first in July 2015. Linda Glew and Sally Robertson had been showing him their new Kerei St home, which was nearing completion on a section in Motueka, near Nelson.
“We were standing out on the street doing our farewells,” Robertson said. “He looked down the side of the house and said: ‘Gee, that’s close’ to the boundary, ‘what’s going on here’.”
It was with a “sinking feeling” that they checked the distances themselves. They put string along the boundary pegs and took their own measurements, which they compared with those on the plans.
